How to withdraw crypto from robinhood

Withdrawing your cryptocurrency from Robinhood to an external wallet is a straightforward process, but it’s important to understand the steps and any associated limitations. This guide will walk you through the essentials.

Preparing for Withdrawal

Before you can withdraw, ensure your crypto has fully settled. If you used Robinhood’s “Instant Buying Power,” you’ll need to wait for the trade to settle, which typically takes up to 5 business days. Once settled, you can initiate a withdrawal.

Choosing Your Destination Wallet

Just as you’d choose a secure bank for your fiat currency, select a reliable and secure cryptocurrency wallet for your digital assets. This could be a hardware wallet, a software wallet, or another exchange’s wallet. Ensure you have your recipient wallet address ready.

Initiating the Withdrawal

Select the Cryptocurrency: Navigate to your crypto holdings within the Robinhood app and choose the specific cryptocurrency you wish to withdraw (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).

Tap ‘Withdraw’: You should see an option to ‘Withdraw’ or ‘Transfer’ your crypto.

Enter Recipient Address: Carefully input the correct public address of your destination wallet. Double-check this address for accuracy, as crypto transactions are irreversible.

Specify Amount: Enter the amount of cryptocurrency you wish to send.

Review Transaction Details: Confirm all details, including the recipient address, amount, and any applicable network fees. For ERC20 tokens, network fees are paid in ETH, which Robinhood will deduct automatically, even if your ETH balance is zero.

Confirm Withdrawal: Authorize the transaction to proceed.

Important Considerations

  • Network Fees: Robinhood does not charge a platform surcharge for crypto transfers. However, you will be responsible for the inherent network costs, which vary depending on the cryptocurrency and network congestion.
  • Daily Limits: Be aware of daily withdrawal limits. Robinhood allows you to send up to $5,000 worth of crypto or make up to 10 transfers within any 24-hour period.
  • Private Keys: Protecting your private keys for your external wallet is paramount, as it’s your unique identifier and authorization for accessing your funds.
  • Blockchain Choice: Ensure you are sending your crypto on the correct blockchain network. Sending on the wrong network can result in the loss of your funds.

By following these steps and keeping these points in mind, you can successfully withdraw your crypto from Robinhood to your chosen external wallet.
